The designer does not, as a rule, begin with a preconceived idea. His idea is the result of subjective and objective thought, and the design a product of the idea. In order, therefore, to achieve an honest and effective solution he necessarily passes thought some sort of mental process. Consciously or not, he analyzes, interprets, translates. He improvises, invents new techniques and combinations. He coordinates and integrates his material so that he may restate his problem in terms of ideas, pictures, forms, and shapes. He unifies, simplifies, eliminates superfluities. He symbolizes, abstracts from his material by association and analogy. He intensifies and reinforces his symbol with appropriate accessories to achieve clarity and interest. He draws upon instinct and intuition. He considers the spectator, his feelings and predilections. If you think you have this in you then we give a perfect opportunity to show your talents and ideas here at MINDKRAFT 2010.

Additional Info

The event is mainly consists of designing your solutions for the given problem statements in the software Pro ENGINEER. This is a two round competition.

1. Preliminary round.

2. On the spot Final Rounds.

The preliminary round consists of a Q&A session where the basic skills in Pro ENGINEER will be tested. The questions will be given on spot. If more participants are eligible for the final round than the required numbers, then the shortlisting will be done according to the earliest submission.

The Final round is a spot event which you will be given a problem statement and will be asked to design the solution in stipulated amount of time.

In this event the participants will be shown a working mechanism and then will be asked to model the same as per their own dimensions .They will be provided college computers. They can use either Pro-e or solid works software.

Intro

Lo and Behold, this time Contraptions is not for the faint hearted. Contraptions, has changed, and you need to adapt. This year the challenges have become more difficult and numerous. We will test you on your skills in robotics, disaster proof construction, roller coasters, dominoes and much more.
All these are just tools to survive the competition but victory will depend on the your innovation and efficiency in steps, use of materials and most importantly your ability to present your work and impress the jury and the audience.
We're not done! Not yet. The luxury of unlimited space and number of steps is also gone. With limited steps and confined area you have to temper your ideas and your creativity. It will take some hard decisions and good management, to make the right choices that will keep you in the game.

Rules

1. Students are supposed to register before 5th march.

2. A team can consist of only 3 members.

3. Participants are supposed to bring all the required materials for the event.

4. Participants are supposed to meet all the requirements as per the specifications mentioned below.

5. All the participants should not use any other obstacles other than the materials listed below. If so marks will be deducted.

6. Any participant who does not meet the specifications are prone to be disqualified.

7. A space of 8ft X 8ft will be provided to each team.

8. The contraption must be safe to the satisfaction of the judges and coordinators.

9. Only two Trials or Attempts are allowed.

10. Liquids are NOT allowed.

11. However, if the person takes the 2nd trial then the AVERAGE of the two is taken.

12. No alteration in contraption of any kind is allowed at any point of time.

13. Failing to start the contraption when asked to by the coordinators could lead to disqualification of the team for that trial.

14. Judge's and the Coordinators decision shall be final and binding to all.

15. Any participants found violating above rules will be disqualified from the event.

Specifications:

1. All the participants are supposed use the below obstacles :

    a. pepsi can
    b. balloon
    c. knife
    d. soap bar
    e. card board

2. Design should be made in such a way that it should contain a minimum of ONE vertical loop ,TWO humps , ONE bridge.

3. Additional bonus marks will be awarded for the participants according to the design which may include bends , curves , steps etc.

4. Ball - The size of the ball of a standard Table Tennis ball. You can use a crazy ball or you can choose to make your own ball. No other object should be used.

5. Competition is strictly based on marks scored in the event .

6. The marks are allotted as follows :

    a. Pepsi can (5 points )
    b. Dominoes (10 points)
    c. Knife (5 points)
    d. Soap bar (5 point)
    e. Card board (5 points)
    f. Additional loop and humps will carry 15 points each.
g. Maximum 25 points will be awarded as bonus for better designs.
7. For the completion of the event it is mandatory for the balloon to be freed.

8. Marks will be deducted from the total if the participants fail to complete the event.

9. Winners are judged by calculating the maximum marks scored.

Additional Info

Module 1: Ball Roller Coaster

In this module, you should make a rollercoaster for a ball to take it from one corner of the arena to the other. It may include bends ,curves ,humps ,steps ,bridges etc.

Module 2: Unique Objects

In your contraption, you should make use of the following objects as creatively as possible

    1. Bar Soap
    2. Knife
    3. Balloon
    4. Pepsi Can
    5. Cardboard
Module 3: Task

The main task is to release the balloon which will be tied at the end of the square. Depending upon the creativity the balloon should be released.
